I’ve been seeing so many posts about how the education system is a scam and while I full-heartedly agree that the cost of education has inflated exponentially over the years and it can be crippling, I am so happy and thankful that I graduated with my Doctor of Pharmacy.

Going to university mindfully is the most important thing. It totally depends on your degree and what you plan to do with it.

OF COURSE you can be successful without a college degree. University is not for everyone!

At the end of the day, it’s just you and your life, so go enjoy it and be the person you want to be.

I’ll finally be graduating with my PharmD in May

I’ll finally be graduating with my PharmD in May 2024 and here are my ins and outs for this year!

For the past 4 years I have been working 7 days a week (school mon-fri and working sat-sun), while dog and cat sitting on the side and doing some social media management as well. Before that, I was at least going to school and/or working 6 days a week since turning 16. While I’m grateful for the skills and opportunities these jobs have given me (time management, $$ to travel & less debt upon graduation etc.), now that I will be starting my professional career, I want to let myself have a day (or two!) of rest. I will likely be working 7 days a week until mid April but after that, I am soo done with the workaholic hustle culture I’ve created.

It’s been extremely difficult to create financial goals for myself while interest rates are skyrocketing, my income is always changing and I really didn’t know my next steps post-graduation. Now that I have been accepted into a hospital residency program come Aug 2024 in Toronto, I will be able to start making financial goals again and put a debt repayment strategy in place for my student loans and student line of credit.

I know I’ve been quieter on here for the past two years, I have been joining school clubs, participating in research projects and accepting work opportunities all to help me get accepted into the hospital residency program of my dreams and I did it! 😭 Thanks to all who have stuck by, this next chapter of life = wealth building and I cannot wait! 🤑

3 things I do to increase my credit score 👇🏻

✅ 1. Keep my utilization below 30%

You do not want to hit your credit limit each month! Lenders want to see you’re not using over 30% of the credit they’re providing to you. That means if your credit card has a $1,000 limit, when they pull your statement each month you should have no more than a $300 balance or it will negatively impact your credit score. Take a look at your past statements to see what date they normally pull your credit (statement date) and ensure you pay your card down to at least 30% before this date in the future (paying it down to 0 or $1 also works 😌).

✅ 2. Pay off my cards off in full every month

I set up calendar reminders for a few days before when my payments are due and also set up automatic payments to ensure that I pay at least the minimum amount in case I truly forget. Missed payments can significantly hurt your credit score and can stay on your credit report for up to 7 years! If you miss a payment, be sure to call the bank, explain the situation and ask for them to waive any fees.

✅ 3. I don’t close my old accounts

Yes, even if I’m not using them anymore! I still have my first credit card I opened when I was 19. Length of credit history is one of the main factors that makes up your credit score so keeping those old accounts can lengthen your history, which will help you continue to increase it.

Lenders use credit scores to judge how trustworthy you are with money and can help them decide whether or not you qualify for credit cards, housing, cars etc. and can affect the interest rate you can qualify for for mortgages, car loans, lines of credits etc.

Credit scores are SO important so it’s crucial to check your score regularly. You can check your score through your banking app, or by using websites like Credit Karma or Borrowell (🔗 in bio).

Here 👇🏻

My bestie and I took a bucket list trip this summer and travelled to Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark over 19 days.

Iceland has been a dream destination for me for many many years and I still can’t believe I got to visit and see so many other beautiful countries as well. Our original budget for the trip was $5K but once we got talking about it, we knew we wanted to get the full experience by going to restaurants, stopping by cute shops, grabbing drinks, coffee and pastries every morning, going shopping, etc. We also wanted to rent a car in Iceland to be able to get anywhere we wanted, whenever we wanted! That was definitely the best choice.

We lived our absolute best lives this trip and weren’t too worried about the prices for food and drinks etc because we had both saved in advance. Our trip came to just under $7K. Thankfully I had some wiggle room as I had saved up close to $10K this past year from dog & cat sitting and also had some credit card points to use for some flights.

Learning how to spend money is just as important as learning how to save and invest money. When you spend in alignment with your values you can really make progress towards your goals!

There is no way I would have saved every dollar I was making from cat & dog sitting so diligently if I wasn’t planning this dream vacation with my bestie.
