The Sephora Spring Sale is finally here!
In this article I’m going to walk you through the steps I take to not only save money on my online purchases but also help keep the impulse buys at bay.
Take a few minutes to watch the video or read along and follow these steps before you make any purchases at Sephora. You can thank me later…
1. Shop Online
While this is a pretty obvious point for the time being, keep this in mind for future purchases as well. You can go into the store for your free samples and what not but when you actually go to purchase the products, head home and shop online. Keep reading to see why.
2. Sign up for Rakuten
Rakuten is an e-commerce company that works by referring you to other companies websites and services. So in this case, Sephora will pay Rakuten a commission for referring you to their site, and Rakuten will pass on some of that commission back to you.
Right now, Rakuten is offering a 2.5% cash back rate for Sephora. This means that if you spend $100, you’ll get $2.50 credited to you in your Rakuten account and they will literally send you a cheque in the mail!
I know it may not seem like a lot but it does add up if you remember to actually use it every time you shop. I got my first cheque last month and am seriously upset with myself for not starting to use Rakuten sooner.
Sign up here to get $5 when you spend your first $25! It’s completely free.
Now this cash back service goes beyond just Sephora. If you are shopping at Nike, Adidas, Lululemon etc. they are all offering cash back to shop through the Rakuten website.
You can go to the website every time and search for the specific store you are looking for or you can install it as a Google Chrome Plugin.
Go look around the website and get used to using it whenever you are shopping online. It’s completely free to sign up and they literally send you a cheque in the mail just for shopping as you normally would so… why not?!?
3. Buy enough product to last you to the next sale
This is the key to success.
Sephora has a spring sale and a holiday sale every single year. You know it’s coming, why not be prepared for it?
Throughout the year (yes this is a long game) you can start adding items to your cart. If you’re going to be buying a lot of products, you can also start putting money away specifically for the sale right now.
For me, this is kind of like Black Friday (and for the record, yes, I am saving up for that already too). When the Sephora sales comes around, I am ready to go!
During the holiday sale I am always buying my skin care value boxes. Last years box was a $146 value box sold for $64. That means if I were to buy every item separately it would cost me $146, but they shove it into a value box and sell it for $64. Since these boxes contain the items I would be buying anyways, I absolutely love them and snatch them up!
I think I bought about 8 boxes or more last year, hence the Beauty Insider Rouge status… but this is the kind of thing you want to be on the lookout for.
Now during the spring sale I am just ensuring that I have enough product stocked up at home to get me through to the next holiday sale. I bought so many boxes because I knew I would be needing the products throughout the year. Why pay full price when I can get a ridiculous discount and stock up?
Not only does this method stop me from impulse buying throughout the year but it allows me to buy products on sale. Always.
If you wait until you run out of a product, you have to run the store and buy the item at whatever price they are currently selling it at. Save yourself some money and prepare in advance what products you’ll need for the year!
4. Utilize Coupon Codes & Beauty Offers
Sephora has a bunch of coupon codes to choose from so do not even think about checking out of your cart before finding one! Right now the SPRINGSAVE coupon code is probably going to be your best bet if you are an insider.
However, if you happen to be shopping at Sephora not during a sale, I would recommend choosing a free item from the beauty offers. Under the SHOP tab and under BEAUTY OFFERS, you can scroll through and find coupon codes for free trial sized products.
This is a great way to try out new products and get some free stuff during your shop!
5. Final Coupon Code check with Honey
Honey is a Google Chrome extension that will search through a bunch of different coupon codes to find you the best discount.
It’s rare that Honey will be able to beat the 10%, 15% or 20% off sale that Sephora is offering right now but you may as well take the extra 30 seconds to check.
Honey works a little bit differently than Rakuten in that you don’t get money credited and sent to you, you get the discount right as you’re checking out.
Again, Honey goes beyond just shopping at Sephora so be sure to check the coupon codes it offers whenever you are shopping online!
Now you can only pick one coupon code to use when checking out with Sephora but I’m just making you aware of all of the different options to choose from.
6. Grab your free samples
Once you’ve decided what products you are going to be purchasing and what coupon code you are going to be using, don’t forget to grab your 2 free samples with every purchase.
7. Redeem your Beauty Insider Points
Lastly, be sure to check out the Rewards Bazaar tab under your user profile every time you are shopping on the site. They are constantly putting up new products to redeem anywhere from 100, 250, 750, all the way up to 10,000 points.
This is another great opportunity to grab some free products during your shop! These products sell out quick so if you see something you like, don’t wait.
So there you have it, my top tips for saving hundreds of dollars every year on Sephora purchases!
